Yup

*from pinterest of course

Had someone new see my blog today.  They noted the high caliber of intellectual subjects I explore in an insightful and yet concise manner on my blog...yup...but darlin' like we heard from the mouths of babes today "it's pretty AND messy"...and that (along with feck it) is a pretty good mantra ;)

My new slogan of "Feck It" is working out really well for me!

Dreams

I go back and forth in this new land between wanting to meet and greet everyone, to wanting to hide out and fret that whoaaaaa,  these people are not like me!  It's time to feck it, get over myself, I'm wasting time and boring myself.

On that note I've decided to show more of an interest in the lives around me...a grumpy Irishman I know wants to live on a boat and is documenting the process here.

This magical mushroom grows in the small woods by my place...oh and Dear Dad; I got your smartarse email about this wee messy little blog and how you like reading between the lines.  So yeah, Mother Teresa is one of my go to decor guru's!

I need to remember these words of Mother Teresa's in particular right now...and I NEED to be the sole decorator in my home, the beige is killing me :)

Good Songs and Idiots

"I get a little bit angry and I know I've got to get out and cry"

An Osprey is not an Eagle, you "have a special place on the bottom of the learning curve"

Good things are coming, things are changing and I am so thankful for all the love from my family, friends and the universe...thank YOU! xo

Late Again...

Friday Fill-In's are often a Sunday review for me.  Which is fine because we don't have much of anything planned ahead....ever...and yes it stresses the Capricorn in me out...Seeing the Atlantic Pride festival was such a different experience than my Toronto viewing years ago.  While the Toronto one was bigger and grander the Halifax parade was a testament to community.  Watching the parade that was filled with so many community supporters, not just the Pride community, was a teary time.  Everyone from the police, corporate sponsors,  small businesses to the mayor was there!  I was proud to be cheering from the sidelines and dancing to Cher!

1. Life is a stage...put on a good show.

2. Shanghai is one of the best places to people watch EVER because it is absolutely beautiful and insane.

3. If I was going somewhere, the one thing I have to bring is a sense of humour.

4. I will be eating wine and sugar soaked strawberries soon enough.

5. Next year, I will be in a whole other career place.

6. I came to the East and I found it years behind, which is both good and a learning experience.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to...or reflecting upon, a weekend filled with events from the Atlantic Pride, a ferry ride to World Peace Pavilionwine and sugar soaked strawberries and grilled zucchini pizza...

Police and Animals

"A scared panda clings to a police officer's leg after an earthquake hits China" Link Here

My husband came home tonight with a picture and story about an officer who was working Christmas day.  Long story short a seal, a 300lb seal was stranded.  Animal control said, don't worry about it, it will make it's way back to water.  So the officer watched as it became increasingly weak and short of breath, a normally hostile animal suffering needlessly, on Christmas Day of all days.  Starting alone with a bottle of water the officer struggled to help an animal outside of his provincial knowledge.  Eventually his efforts drew the curiosity of the locals, who joined in, feeding the seal fish.  With the help of the community the seal allowed itself to be assisted back to the ocean....

Not all police stories are feel good.  Not all animal stories end well.  But sometimes, sometimes the The Rest Of The Story comes out....

I Am a White Girl

I am.  I am white, pale white and freckled. Many folk, mainly men have told me that they like that I obviously don't have any (insert any darker skinned racial slur here) in me to not recognize that it matters.  It matters in ways that make me go still and quiet, in ways that make me feel doubly hard when I hear stories like I did this week.  A story of a man and woman, never an uncomplicated theme.  A story of a potential romance smeared and over before it began...

Affirm Life.

Happy Birthday Canada

I, like many Canadians, have a 'laundry' list of why I love Canada.  Today, for Canada's birthday I'll list one, this man Shane Koyczan, and his talent.  God Bless Canada, God Bless us all!

My Smiles...

So this is my brain on sinus medication...I gotta say as disjointed as it is, it's filled with great stuff like this yummy Almond/Coconut Egyptian style cake I bought at the market this morning, really, so moist it was hard to pick up, it made me smile.
John Cusack always makes me smile, always.
My cat thinks he can fit in my bag of goodies from the market...homecoming trinkets (3 more sleeps, I'm all teary thinking about it)!!! He makes me smile.

But before I wonder at my cats intelligence or lack thereof I always remember my husbands cat, Ally, is very 'special'...she sat looking at that Q-tip for a very long time.  She makes me laugh.

I love my Earl, I am hugging him, it's just hard to tell because his eyes are closed and he's a black cat...

As excited as I am to see my friends and family for a brief time, explore the Big Smoke, hang upside down on roller coasters, stuff myself full of Injera b Wot and fill myself up with all sorts of hugs, love and girlfriend/dad time I know I'll be happy to return to my new home by the sea.  My husband and the laid back people of the East make my life very good....Oh yes, and a mini shout out to a Halifamous blogger I finally said hello to, Shelagh, she needs to write a tour guide for the area.  I know much of what a know about these parts thanks to her blog!

It's Been Awhile

It's been awhile since I've felt compelled enough by something to sit down and post.  Not that things haven't been happening, over a month of rain and todays dire warning of the rapture tonight, a party, job offers considered and rejected, the final countdown before a visit home.  Everyday things, beginnings and endings but somehow I have needed to stand still and take stock.  Today I close old emails and start fresh, I'll spring clean even though I almost forget what the sun looks like and the prophets (false or otherwise) wonder if this is the end of the world .

On a more concrete note it is fairytales and the the promise of magic that brings me to the computer again.  The above prints by dkim are just filled with wonder...and that is art.

Changes are Empowering

*print wish number 90 hundred and twos of an eight

Taking a blogging break.  The weather here is warming up and I'm experiencing a bit of the blahs...nothing worth wallowing in.  Just time to do a bit of exploring, change some email addy's to clear out some debris,  make some bling and get on with it...

Silver Lining

*image found here

Ahhhhh little boys and their superheroes, they come in all shapes and sizes...both the boys and the heroes.  Today was another long day at work, I've had had to play the tough guy a lot lately, don't love it, I swear it ages me....well this is my thanks to one little man.  Today he posted a 'shout out' to my husband on his sisters blog.  This little man is without a doubt one of the most spirited, bright and absolutely charming, evil imps I've had the pleasure of working with.  Btw, the policeman has heard/read the 'shout out' and alternated between grinning and sighing.

Here's to cupcakes and a long weekend.

We're Having a Party

A 40th birthday for my beloved is coming up and while combing the diy blogs for a little heartfelt gift to make (surprisingly hard as he is not one of those geek chic boys at all)  I found these awesome candy shoes, Now  there aren't many people who I could make these with, aside from the children I work with around here...but I should be making a visit soon to bona fide land of girls who will be all over a night of this with a bit of whiskey :)

I Am Angry, I Am Sad, I Feel Guilty

*image found here

Japan, there is no question, is in pain.  This pain hurts me.  It hurts, I would imagine the majority of thinking, feeling people.

However.  I was told by a very misguided (yes, I am using my nice words) woman that this tragedy was the result of Mother Nature.  Mother Nature was using this as population control....I feel sick about this still...I think some of my disgust is the result of my inept numbness.  I stood in silence as this hatred was sent forth (need I mention that the woman who believes this...and that Mother Nature was wiping out not only the people of Japan but their pets also happens to work with children).

Anyways, tonight while looking up my horoscope by Susan Miller I read an essay that renews my faith in people..."

PS for April 2011

Open Letter to the Japanese People

By Susan Miller
You are not alone, my friends in Japan. I watched in horror as news reports concerning your recent earthquake, tsunami, and the damage to the nuclear reactors unfolded from day to day. The events were unthinkable and unfathomable - almost too much for anyone to endure.
The measure of a nation and its people, I feel, is revealed not in time of ease, but during times of peril. It is always during difficult times that we reveal the genuine character that lies beneath. I suppose in those times, we have no energy but to be our truest self. Now others will see a vast beauty that is inside you that is to be unmasked. In the case of Japan, a whole nation has shown remarkable strength and fortitude and an unshakable faith in the future.
Here in the United States, we gather in front of our televisions several times a day to get reports. We were able to see, close-up, the immeasurable suffering of those Japanese people who lost family members, their homes, and all their possessions. We saw that the relief efforts were taking a long time to get to those most needy, due to blocked roads and overwhelming destruction.
Despite much sorrow, we were touched to see the serene composure of the Japanese people and the powerful sense of community in the affected areas that linked stranger to stranger in a united brotherhood. Your countrymen's strength went far beyond what anyone would have expected under such trying circumstances. The compassion for others that was displayed by those who had lost so much touched me deeply.
We noticed that in Japan, there were no riots after the disaster, borne out of frustration and hunger. There was no pushing, shoving, or shouting - instead there were orderly lines of patient people waiting their turn to receive desperately needed food, water, and medical supplies. We all asked ourselves, under the same circumstances, would we have shown the same dignity and serenity of the people of Japan? I would like to think we would, but like any hypothetical situation, no one ever knows for sure until faced with the same severe circumstances. The people who stood in line were cold, hungry, and maybe even frightened, yet all waited calmly, as if to say, "Everyone here is equal in their pain. My needs are not more important than those of my neighbor."
God bless you, my friends in Japan. Your plight weighs heavily in the minds and hearts of every American. I live in New York City, and your situation has sparked heartfelt sympathy. We discuss your plight in every coffee shop, on every street corner, and over dinner in every household. Most of us are drawing up plans to raise money as quickly as possible. We care, and it is time to show that we do.
At times like these, many ask, why does the universe impose such suffering? We are small in the scheme of the wide universe, and in the end, we must admit that we have few answers concerning life's mysteries. We are but soldiers of a God who loves us and who will never forsake us. Despite how small and helpless we feel at times, we manage to press forward, for we have faith. The unflagging optimism and resourcefulness of the Japanese people has engendered deep admiration.
I feel you already know about the spiritual truths and mysteries of which I speak. Your people seem to be saying to us, "In times of greatest sorrow there is always comfort in caring for others." One young Japanese woman was reported to have carried her 88-year-old mother on her back over a far distance to get her mother to safety. It is scenes like that that move us and show us the spirit of the Japanese people. These scenes inspire me and other Americans, and we want to help.
Indeed, the ability to be compassionate, and to feel another's pain as if it were our own, is one of the highest of all human qualities. When one of us suffers, we all suffer. Your pain is our pain.
If this catastrophe has taught us anything, it is that the world is very small. Severe circumstances can come to any country at any time. We are all united in the family of man." continued here

Sugar Addiction

* image/produce found here

* found here

Apparently I am, addicted....and crashing hard (read random tears, exhaustion etc)...so I am taking one month to be dessert free...which is really extra sad in that many desserts are just sooooooo pretty...eating them is like swallowing sunshine and lace, Springtime and confetti....oh dear, I think it's time to craft something pretty, lots of lots of pretty things to help allay my vice...
