Glitter and Fog

My life in the last few days, painting glitter nails, sharp and bright against the landscape of fog that erases the edges of my world. 

Full Steam Ahead

Last night my husband referred to me as his artist wife...this gave me a pause.  One, because after almost eleven years together we still are prone to giggles that we recently legally wed.  And two, because to me, artist, is a very big word.  Like many people the concept of artist and/or artist as a living is an oxymoron.  I have no problem saying that I've started crafting, but ART.  At very least it's prompted me to blog about some of the things I have been making lately.  My photo's are primarily taken with my blackberry and our home is still a very limiting rental until we make some decisions.

So, I made this (and I'm even posting a picture of me, eek).  I literally cut out each petal, burnt it to a shape I liked and hand stitched them together and wired them onto a headband....

GLITTER

DIY glitter shoes.  I am imaging a closet in a full range of shades....Instructions here...shoes + glitter = simple happiness...

Sarah Burton, the current creative director of Alexander Mcqueen has released her collection...and it is very impressive.  Gorgeous clothes that cross both era's and cultures...everything fashion can be. Some of my favourites are;

Now these are girls after my own heart.  A Mori Girl is defined by this beautiful blog as " The mori girls (森ガール) belong to a Japanese subculture. 'Mori' means forest in Japanese, and mori girls look like fairytale forest wanderers in their loose dresses, vintage prints and quaint accessories. Mori girls choose to live their lives on their own terms, stopping to appreciate the little things that others overlook amidst the hustle and bustle of daily life."

Gypsy Circus

My mum is down for a visit and has brought me some unique post birthday gifts. Gypsy Circus found here creates some incredibly cozy clothing. I now own a soft, patchwork (teal and moss green and black velvet with earthy wools) hooded shirt similar to the one shown here. 

I also now own paper earrings! I love paper art; my earrings are a blend of seascape shades by Legend Design a fun site to play on http://www.legendtoronto.com/

O.k. so ignoring the models unhappy facial features I simply love/adore this Erin Fetherston dream from 2009 fall/winter collection. Check it out here to see just how amazing the dress/fabric really is up close...this has nothing to do with my post except that it makes me happy...

The next 10 things on my ‘bucket’ (I do not love this term) list is a bit of a cheat. This is 10 things that I HAVE done; I am proud of and would, will or am continuing to do...

61) Lived in Ethiopia
62) Lived in China
63) Travelled to, London(England), Switzerland, Israel (thanks mum and dad), Dominican Republic, the East Coast of Canada and much of the United States (thanks honey) :)
64) Embrace Vegetarianism
65) Quit smoking
66) Use only green cleaners in our home (baking soda and vinegar etc)
67) Our cats (eternally ungrateful critters in fur pyjama’s) are rescue animals
68) Have mucha post secondary education and am/will put it to good use ;)
69) Use green toiletries that work!
70) Have simplified my life from a non green ‘burbs existence to increasingly sustainable urban living...


Sometimes it's good to remember how much one has accomplished!

Wearable Art

Fringes

Fringes in the 80's I hated, it was a childhood fashion stuck on everything including t shirts and often finished with a cheap bead. Now it's being recycled on boots and purses in particular and I still don't like it...but this Jil Sanders dress, a sheath draped to the tripping length with streamlined threads looks elegant and fun and in short, how fringes should (if at all) be done.
