Dreams

I go back and forth in this new land between wanting to meet and greet everyone, to wanting to hide out and fret that whoaaaaa,  these people are not like me!  It's time to feck it, get over myself, I'm wasting time and boring myself.

On that note I've decided to show more of an interest in the lives around me...a grumpy Irishman I know wants to live on a boat and is documenting the process here.

This magical mushroom grows in the small woods by my place...oh and Dear Dad; I got your smartarse email about this wee messy little blog and how you like reading between the lines.  So yeah, Mother Teresa is one of my go to decor guru's!

Happy Birthday Canada

I, like many Canadians, have a 'laundry' list of why I love Canada.  Today, for Canada's birthday I'll list one, this man Shane Koyczan, and his talent.  God Bless Canada, God Bless us all!

My Smiles...

So this is my brain on sinus medication...I gotta say as disjointed as it is, it's filled with great stuff like this yummy Almond/Coconut Egyptian style cake I bought at the market this morning, really, so moist it was hard to pick up, it made me smile.
John Cusack always makes me smile, always.
My cat thinks he can fit in my bag of goodies from the market...homecoming trinkets (3 more sleeps, I'm all teary thinking about it)!!! He makes me smile.

But before I wonder at my cats intelligence or lack thereof I always remember my husbands cat, Ally, is very 'special'...she sat looking at that Q-tip for a very long time.  She makes me laugh.

I love my Earl, I am hugging him, it's just hard to tell because his eyes are closed and he's a black cat...

As excited as I am to see my friends and family for a brief time, explore the Big Smoke, hang upside down on roller coasters, stuff myself full of Injera b Wot and fill myself up with all sorts of hugs, love and girlfriend/dad time I know I'll be happy to return to my new home by the sea.  My husband and the laid back people of the East make my life very good....Oh yes, and a mini shout out to a Halifamous blogger I finally said hello to, Shelagh, she needs to write a tour guide for the area.  I know much of what a know about these parts thanks to her blog!

It's Been Awhile

It's been awhile since I've felt compelled enough by something to sit down and post.  Not that things haven't been happening, over a month of rain and todays dire warning of the rapture tonight, a party, job offers considered and rejected, the final countdown before a visit home.  Everyday things, beginnings and endings but somehow I have needed to stand still and take stock.  Today I close old emails and start fresh, I'll spring clean even though I almost forget what the sun looks like and the prophets (false or otherwise) wonder if this is the end of the world .

On a more concrete note it is fairytales and the the promise of magic that brings me to the computer again.  The above prints by dkim are just filled with wonder...and that is art.

Silver Lining

*image found here

Ahhhhh little boys and their superheroes, they come in all shapes and sizes...both the boys and the heroes.  Today was another long day at work, I've had had to play the tough guy a lot lately, don't love it, I swear it ages me....well this is my thanks to one little man.  Today he posted a 'shout out' to my husband on his sisters blog.  This little man is without a doubt one of the most spirited, bright and absolutely charming, evil imps I've had the pleasure of working with.  Btw, the policeman has heard/read the 'shout out' and alternated between grinning and sighing.

Here's to cupcakes and a long weekend.

Learning From Others

* art found here
While reading one of my fav. local blogs slightly off center I found/stole/borrowed a neat subject matter, 'Ten Things I have to Let Go Of'...thought provoking and somewhat ever changing...My ten...

1.  Old smoking cravings

2.  Wishing that I was blonde, or looked good as a blonde…

3.  How time is starting to fly

4.  Guilt, oh Lord the old guilt…

5.  Things that I just plain suck at

6.  Being overly sensitive

7.  Being childless guilt (yup, it’s a separate guilt)

8.  The uncontrollable

9.  My fate to wander in this life…

10.  Not singing like Ella Fitzgerald

Girl Crush

I've resisted this girl blogger for quite some time.  Flip Flopping between I have nothing in common with her, to wow I could have written/said this, while reading, continually being pulled back to re-read her blog...I think the clincher for me was a teeny little quote at the bottom of a page  ...AND THERE WAS A NEW VOICE WHICH YOU SLOWLY RECOGNIZED AS YOUR OWN,
THAT KEPT YOU COMPANY AS YOU STRODE DEEPER AND DEEPER INTO THE WORLD,
DETERMINED TO DO / THE ONLY THING YOU COULD DO - DETERMINED TO SAVE / THE ONLY LIFE YOU COULD SAVE ~ MARY OLIVER

It's a Hard World For Little Things

*image and shop found here
Isn't it just though.  It's hard period.  The economic climate is not throwing out dream options and sunshine to just anybody right now.  The environmental, political, spiritual and just plain every day realms haven't been looking so on track these days.  This week I watched helplessly as an officer was laid to rest, dying in another senseless act.  Countless police, their families, friends, neighbours and shocked citizens shed tears together...'Let It Be' from Across The Universe by Carol Woods and Timothy T was aptly played...

My moment of silence will always be inside of me, Godspeed Sergeant Ryan Russell.  May your death and your families sacrifice serve as a catalyst for good, for change, a wake up call for action...

Crow Dreams

To begin; add a dose of courage and hope, a dash of inspiration, a handful of tried and true wisdom and mix it all up with a prayer, love, fun, some local charity and my unique brand of owness and I can see the future...

You know what?

I'm having the time of my life...not that it's a perfect ride but it's the ride that I'm on.  Recently the Black Eyed Peas have redone 'I've had the Time of my Life', but to me it falls flat, bless them for trying. The original 'time of my life' from the 'Dirty Dancing' movie encompasses all the hopes, excitement and emotion of life defining moments (check it out here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpmILPAcRQo&NR=1&feature=fvwp, seriously check it out again).  Yes, it has the cheesiness of a piece from it's time, but this is my response to a certain negative blog/person who just sucks the joy out of living...

I Want To 'Make' This

I love letters and words the beauty and the power of them.  I found the above image on a blog that has vintage images.  The Vintage Moth is another great blog.  I'm thinking of having this image framed...

Yet Another Gifted Blogger

I love finding great new blogs.  The image above is an example of the talented generosity of The Graphics Fairy.  Not only does she have great posts that include images like the one above, but she also gives them away for free...sharing art.  She also has some pretty tutorials that I know I'll be following...I really do love have the blog-sphere is like another land, with all these voices, cultures, knowledge and talent being shared.

A Post Looking for a Sign

* image found here

So while on the hunt for our wedding bands, engraved, sterling and with any luck some custom tweaks, I came across the above Etsy site.  When I look at an Etsy site I specifically search an artists profile and/or blog if applicable.  This particular blog happens to have a contest every month!  So, as part of the contest AND as an omen to myself I am posting about Trudie's blog, one to increase my chances of winning those sweet little stacking rings and if I do win I will have my sign as to what shop I need to buy our rings from...yes, I know it's superstitious.

Nova Scotia Artist

While touring the local market yesterday with an old friend visiting from Ontario I met several new and charming people.  This lovely piece of art is a card I purchased for 'H' in recognition of our ongoing palette differences...The artist, Helen Painter is even more charming than her prints and I have my fingers crossed that  I will soon see her work on Etsy.  In the meantime she can be found here .

A Very Cool Teacher Gift

A very cool anyone gift actually.  This lovely pottery clock is personalized with words chosen by the teachers students, see more about it at Mary Burrows blog here.  I found this when checking out her equally neat etsy shop and Voltaire quote "i have decided to be happy, because it is good for my health" here .
